Native Divi 5 ModuleFree

Divi Video Modal

Open videos in a sleek, responsive popup.

Why use the Divi Video Modal module?

An embedded video is the heaviest thing on most pages. It loads a player, a stylesheet and a tracking script before anyone has decided to watch, it fixes your layout to a 16:9 box, and on a phone it usually pushes the thing you actually wanted people to read below the fold.

The Video Modal puts a poster image and a play button on the page, and opens the video in an overlay when someone asks for it. You choose the poster, the play mark and how the overlay looks.

The poster beside this is the live module. Click the play mark and the video opens over the page.

Every poster below is the live module. Click one and the video opens over the page. The demo film is Big Buck Bunny, the Blender Foundation’s openly licensed short.

YouTube

Paste a YouTube link and the modal handles the rest.

Vimeo

The same module with the type switched to Vimeo.

What the trigger is

An icon, a line of text, or both. Alignment and the gap between them are separate settings.

Icon only

The default. A play mark centred on the poster.

Text only

No icon at all, just a line of text you write.

Icon and text

Both together, with the spacing between them set on the module.

Six play marks, and a wave

Six built-in icons, or upload your own. The animated wave is a separate toggle with its own colour.

Icon 2, no background

Drop the icon background and the mark sits straight on the poster.

Icon 4, solid chip

A filled circle behind the mark, at whatever colour you choose.

Icon 6, with the wave

The wave pulses out from behind the chip.

The poster, and the overlay on it

Poster height is a setting, and the overlay above it takes a full Divi background group, so a tint or a gradient needs no custom CSS.

Tinted overlay

A flat colour over the poster, which keeps a white play mark readable on a busy photograph.

No poster at all

Turn the overlay image off and the trigger stands on its own, which suits a text link in a paragraph.

Building one takes under a minute

Three steps, and none of them involve custom CSS.

1Add the moduleDrop Video Modal into any row. It arrives with a play icon in place, ready for a link.2Point it at a videoChoose YouTube, Vimeo or Custom Upload, then paste the link or pick the MP4 from your media library.3Set the poster and the markUpload a poster image, choose one of the six play icons, and decide whether the trigger also carries text.

Questions people ask first

Short answers, all of them checked against what the module actually does.

Is the Video Modal free?Yes. It ships in Divi Torque Lite on WordPress.org, and in Divi Torque Pro. Nothing on this page is behind the paid plugin.Does the video load before someone clicks? No. The page holds your poster image and the trigger, and the video is only requested when the modal opens.Which video sources work?Three: a YouTube link, a Vimeo link, or an MP4 you upload to the media library and serve yourself. There is no Wistia or generic embed option.Where does the poster image come from? You supply it. The module does not pull a thumbnail from the video, which is deliberate: it means you can use a frame that suits the page rather than whatever the platform picked. Can it play automatically, or follow the reader down the page? No. It opens on click and closes on demand. For a player that sticks as the reader scrolls, Sticky Video is a separate module. Can I use my own play button?Yes. Set the icon to Custom and upload an image. The six built-in marks are there for when you do not want to.
