Ajax Search

The Ajax Search module adds a live search field to a page. Results appear under the field as the visitor types, without a page reload. You control what is searched, how many results load at a time, and how each result looks.

Content Tab

Search Form

  • Show Input Icon: Shows an icon inside the search field. Off by default.
  • Input Icon: The icon shown in the field.
  • Placeholder Text: Text shown inside the empty field. Default is "Search ...".
  • Show Submit Button: Shows or hides the submit button. On by default.
  • Submit Button Icon: The icon on the button.
  • Submit Button Text: An optional label. If you enter text, the button shows even when Show Submit Button is off.
  • Show Categories List: Adds a category dropdown next to the field so visitors can narrow results. Off by default.
  • Taxonomy: The slug of the taxonomy that fills the dropdown. Default is category. Only terms that have published content are listed.
  • Categories Placeholder: The label of the first dropdown option. Default is "All Categories".

Search Query

  • Post Type: What to search. Choose Post or Page.
  • Order: Ascending or Descending. Default is Descending.
  • Order By: Date, Title, Random, Relevance or Menu Order. Default is Date.
  • Results Per Batch: How many results load at a time. Default is 5. The maximum is 50.
  • Total Results Cap: The most results a single search can return. Default is 25.

Results

  • Columns: Shows results in 1 to 6 columns. Default is 1.
  • Show Thumbnail: Shows or hides the featured image on each result. On by default.
  • Thumbnail Size: Thumbnail, Medium, Medium Large, Large or Full. Default is Thumbnail.
  • Thumbnail Placeholder: An image used for results that have no featured image.
  • Content Source: Show the Excerpt or the full Content. Default is Excerpt.
  • Content Length (words): How many words of the content each result shows. Default is 55.

Design Tab

  • Input & Button: Icon color and size, field background, field padding, fields margin, submit icon color, and borders for the input field and the category dropdown. The submit button also has Divi's button style options.
  • Results: Results area background and padding, result item background, gap and padding, and borders for the results area, each result item and the thumbnail.
  • Input Text: Font styling for the text typed into the field.
  • Result Title: Font styling for each result title.
  • Result Content: Font styling for the excerpt or content in each result.
